The Beginning

Hello out there.  This is my first ever blog post.  As you might imagine, I work in sales and have been traveling the state of Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana for 20 years.  I also spend some time in Memphis, TN and will have some things to say about BBQ there as well.  I have had the pleasure and disappointment of eating great and horrible BBQ.

Ever since I was a kid, I have loved BBQ.  My dad would spend hours during summers cooking outdoors on his Hastybake grill.  To make a long story short, I have been searching for great Barbecue for years but never quite know where to look.  Until recently I have had fairly bad luck.  Then one day there was an article in the Houston Chronicle about the Texas BBQ trail.  The article mentioned great BBQ joints around the state, many I had never heard of.  Quite frankly, I always asked locals and was mostly disappointed.  I started looking at what I feel is the best BBQ restaurant blog in the state, Full Custom Gospel BBQ fullcustomgospelbbq.com/ .  His blog focuses on the quality of the smoked meats, which is what BBQ is all about.

My blog is going to combine all aspects, meat, sauce, sides, deserts, atmosphere, and Texas attitude (Friendliness).  Also, I am overweight and working to lose weight.  I try to avoid red meat as much as possible so I will be reviewing turkey, chicken and healthy sides as much as possible.  Don't get me wrong, I love brisket, ribs, and smoked sausage/hot links.  I just can't consume large quantities of these items.  But I do know good brisket when try it and if I find it I will let y'all know.

Now, since I travel the state of Texas mostly, I will focus there.  Also, I will focus on places that are really good.  If the BBQ is exceptionally bad, I will let you know.  I have a couple of places in Houston that I have been to recently and will let you know what I think.  Two reviews will be coming shortly.  My next entry will be about what I feel makes good BBQ overall.  If you know of a great place that I need to try, let me know.  Also, if you know of a place that has great low fat meat choices like Turkey or Chicken please shout out.  Until next time, God and TEXAS.
